Exceptional Scandinavian Modern Banquet Table, Custom-Made for Axel Brandt, Odense - San Francisco Fall Show (SF Fall Show)

$19,750.00

Exceptional, one-of-a-kind Scandinavian modern banquet table featuring an elongated hexagonal top crafted from extra-long, continuous matched teak panels, raised on tapered oak legs with exposed joinery, teak-capped details, and inset aprons—highlighting both structural integrity and elegant craftsmanship.

On display at the Stunning Grege Pepin sterling silver at the San Francisco Fall Show

The design reflects the classic early Scandinavian modern aesthetic, showing the influence of Børge Mogensen’s functional minimalism with decorative references to Finn Juhl’s refined organic modernism. It combines sculptural form with everyday usability—a rare and striking piece that embodies the warmth, balance, and precision of mid-century Danish design.

Custom-made for the private banquet hall of Axel Brandt, founder and proprietor of Axel Brandt Glas & Porcelæn, Odense, Denmark—one of the city’s best-known porcelain and glass retailers. Brandt’s business epitomized Odense’s mid-century design culture, bridging the traditions of the porcelain trade with the emerging ideals of Scandinavian modernism.

Headquartered in Odense, Brandt’s original showroom suffered catastrophic damage in 1945, when German forces dropped phosphorus bombs through the shop’s skylight—part of retaliatory attacks during the occupation following local resistance activities in the city. After the war, Brandt rebuilt and reopened his store on Kongensgade as Axel Brandt Glas – Porcelæn – Gaveartikler ApS, offering fine Danish and imported porcelain long before design icons such as Bjørn Wiinblad and Royal Copenhagen achieved global prominence.

This table stands not only as an outstanding example of Danish modern furniture, but also as a tangible artifact of Odense’s post-war resilience, cultural life, and commercial history—a piece linking design, craftsmanship, and the legacy of a distinguished Scandinavian merchant family.
